Working with Online Sales

If you are living in 2020 there is a good chance you have moved part of your life online.  Rather you are working from home and doing most of your work on the internet or simply shopping more online because it is much harder to shop in person thanks to COVID-19 regulations.  The fact is that online sales have doubled in a single year and a vast majority of the United States Economy is taking advantage of it and moving into that area.  It is not a major player in our economy and money is possibly a little more complicated to come by with all teh competition in this industry.  So I wanted to go over some things for those who are simply starting small and worried about making or losing money in the online sales world.

It is truly easy to find yourself overwhelmed when jumping into a whole new system of selling.  If you were a brick and mortar store and now you are selling online then your entire way of doing things has changed.  Now your storefront and positioning of items on shelves matter not one single bit. You are not able to communicate with buyers in a way that you could before.  It is all on a single 2-dimensional flat page.  That means that you have to make sure your words mean a whole lot when they are on the website and that your pictures portray what you want well.  So make sure not to skimp on looks and talk.  It is certainly not cheap for either of those areas.

One other area to think about is the sending of your goods to a potential buyer.  How are you going to do it and with what.  Each element of the packaging costs money and shipping supplies can really add up if you are not careful about them.  You want to make sure that you are not only being wise on the cost of these shipping supplies but using the best ones for your product.  The fact is that you probably have a good idea of what you want, but it may not be what you actually need. I have found over the years that professionals do not cost money in this area to tell you what works best.  You simply have to ask them.

I have found that online packaging supply companies are super ready to help you spend your money with them.  But a great part of that is they have done this and worked with businesses for years and a few major online ones have amazing customer service people who are basically marketing agents.  They have packed every type of product and sell to all the big companies and know what works.  Just call the customer service line up and tell them what you are selling and I bet you will be amazed at how helpful they are.  I am a massive skeptic but my company ended up using a better and easier packaging for our products and we saved a lot of money doing it.  I highly suggest putting in teh time to talk to someone who knows more than you do.  It is a great learning experience and a great way to save some money as well. The best part was it was not a costly consulting fee.
