Skin Packaging

This is a form of carded packaging which includes clamshells and blister packaging. You’re probably interested in what this means. In general, skin packaging involves two major parts to it. The first is the plastic film that’s transparent, usually either skin poly or surlyn, and then there is the backer, which is commonly referred to as the skimboard, or is sometimes replaced by another type of film layer that’s there. Mostly, this type of packaging has three major applications, and people can look for the right one that they need.

Skin Packaging to Display in Stores

This is popular for displaying this on retail shelves.  This is something that uses a certain product and is great for displaying the types of items that a person might purchase. The cool thing about skin packaging is that it fully puts the product within the mold itself, and the film is what creates the product.

Usually, there is a notch at the top of this, and other graphics at the back where the film attaches.

Industrial Applications

This is commonly used in industrial applications including film, and some corrugated items that’ll protect what's there during the shipment of this. With the durability and the strength that’s there, this skin packaging is great if you’re looking to replace the corrugated product inside, foam peanuts, or anything extra that’s typically dunnage. It also costs much less too, and it also improves the productivity of the assembly line.

Spare Parts and Kits for Assembly

This is also used in pre-printed skinboard that identifies the parts that are there and is basically the template for loading this.

You see this on some of the items that are sold.  A customer might take out the item, and they might have a small board at the back, reminding them to reorder something that’s there.

You can also show the different information that’s there, to make the process that much simpler.

This is great as well for those who want to save some space and money on the different illustrations, as it can indicate the parts and their numbers, or even different drawings that are there too.

Is this for you?

What’s the ideal product packaging for you to use?

The best ay to decide this, is the needs that you have regarding the product. Some people are good at using different products, and they might not benefit from the skin packaging.

There are others though who may be able to benefit from this type of packaging, and it can be a great item for this.

If you’re not sure whether or not this type of packaging is ideal, take a look at the current build you have on your packaging. After that, go ahead and talk to someone who is helpful and can give you the best product packaging that you can offer.

You should also talk to various packaging vendors, who can help you decide whether or not you need skin packaging material, or if there is another alternative that’s out there waiting for you.

Regardless, the best way to figure this out is to look at the current line of packaging, figure out if this is the best type of way to meet the needs, or if there is an alternative that’ll work. When you have a good idea of what type of packaging you want to have, you can start to put this together, and build the ideal packaging experience that you want to have.

The right packaging does matter, which is why, when you build it in an effective manner, you’ll create packaging that really matters.
