The Rise of Boxception and Multi-Layered Packaging

Inside a box…is another box. This is known as boxception, and in packaging design, it can be a good way to make the value seem greater, and in turn, build countless suspense.  Why do you need it? Well, it can be used for a variety of reasons, and many of these nested layers offer another layer of benefits too, not already listed here.

We’ll go over here the importance of layers, especially in boxes, and how this can be achieved through packaging means.

Structuring for a Good Reveal

When building this type of layered packaging, you want to make sure that they’re structured in a way that makes the reveal of this even more magical.

The outer part is going to be your protective layer. It’s what’s experiencing the pain of being thrown around while being shipped, so you want to make sure that this layer is strong.

Then, there's the middle, our storytelling layer. Designed to tell a story, this type of packaging is made to craft unique stories that will delight others.

Then, speaking of delight, we got inside. inner delights will offer you something amazing, a product inside, or maybe just the packaging revealing the true components of unboxing.

All of this works together, to create the ultimate in a packaging experience.

Shipping Supplies that Encourage This

So, this all sounds like a wonderful idea, right? So how do we make the shipping supplies encourage such packaging exploration?

The response is what you can add. A pull-tab, opening a secret component to what’s inside is one example of this, and it can be fun.

Then, there's rotating compartments, various compartments that will rotate and change the items around, in order to show such items.

Finally, you have fold-out trays. Trays that, when they fold out, show the delightful goodies within.

Again, all of these come together, and with multiple layers, work to craft the ultimate in high-end unboxing experiences that will really stand out.

The Balance Between Wow and Waste

Now, all of this sounds like a good idea, but there is one concern many have.

Sustainability.

This type of packaging doesn't seem sustainable at first glance. After all, you’re using a lot of boxes, right?

Well that’s the thing. These boxes all go and get layered together, in order to create the ultimate in unboxing. In order to make luxury sustainable, you have to do a few things to make this high-end experience great.

To do this, you need to make sure that the boxes are crafted with eco friendly materials.   Make sure that they’re sustainable.

The same goes for the interior contents.   Try to make sure that they are sustainable. And of course, with this as well, also try not to make the packaging super excessive. Less is more, because the boxes are already protective.

Finally, use magnets, paper tape, and other such means to protect the items, making layered packaging a good addition.

Best Industries for this

The best industries for this are those made to tell a story.

Jewelry is one example. With jewelry, you’re telling them about the item inside, and also protecting the contents.

Collectibles, especially those rare ones, also benefit from this, because they create a thrill that comes from collecting the items that are there.

Finally, artisanal gifts. This will further tell the story, offering a level of protection, followed by a delight that comes with bringing everything together, in order to create a truly resonating experience with your packaging that’s inside, and also for all of the items that will improve your experience as well.

How to Determine Box Size

If you’re like me, you’ve probably wondered what box size you need for everything. For seasoned postal workers, they’ve seen it all. And while a lot of them do understand there are box newbies, this can open the door for problems if you’re not careful. Here are the best ways to choose the correct box and mailer for shipment.

The Shipping box Size Basics

There are different shipping boxes for all of your various needs. The first are standard sizes, which are what you will normally use. The second is cardboard box sizes, which are a little more robust than your average shipping box. There are also corrugated box sizes, which are good for when you send fragile stuff, and need a little more TLC added to this.

Finally, if you have something that requires a specialized size and touch, then you will want to consider the custom sized shipping box for your needs.

Other types of Packaging Options

So a box might be good for you, but you also might be better off with some other types of options.

The first is a bubble mailer, which is good for small items that need some extra cushion. I once remembered I sent something small to someone, and the bubble mailer was perfect for keeping it all in pristine condition, making it great for everyone.

Padded envelopes are the next one, as they offer some dedication means to protect the items and offer some of the best options to protect this.

Finally, if you’re shipping posters, get a mailing tube, for they will help immensely with ensuring you’re getting the right sizes for all of your various packaging needs.

How to determine the best box size

There are a few ways to break down this art, which we’re going to show off right now.

The first is the item size and shape. You want to make sure there’s a little bit of space for padding, some wiggle room that will make everything worth it.   you should give it as much extra space.

It protects against the bumps and the drops and offers some extra room for packaging peanuts and bubble wrap. There’s also a means to offer a buffer for the compression of the box during shipping.

Remember as well that the shape matters too, since taller items fit better in taller boxes. Flat items are good in bubble mailers and envelopes that are padded. Finally, irregular shapes are the way to go, since you’ll want to get something custom to accommodate this.

Next, consider the weight. For heavier items, you’ll want something with sturdy foundations, and then you’ll want to opt for double-walled or corrugated items that are weighty. Check the weight limits on shipping boxes of a standard size. For lighter stuff, you can use bubble mailers or a padded envelope, especially if they’re lightweight, but also a little fragile.

Finally, the destination does matter.   When you’re shipping internationally, there are different rules. Become aware of the size restrictions and consider a packaging box size that is accepted universally. Domestic shipping is usually easier, and you’ll also want to make sure that regional carriers do accommodate for the box size.

The right box size is more than a mere game, it’s a means to ensure that everything gets to where it needs to be safely. With the right shipping tips, you’ll be the ideal shipping guru that you can. it matters so much to have everything aptly packaged, so don’t skimp on this step, but ensure that everything is packaged in a manner that houses it effectively.
